Where I Started
When it comes to body weight, I myself have been at the polar opposites – anorexic and overweight. Fortunately, I now have found a healthy and happy middle ground.
I know what it’s like to wonder if you could go to a friend’s Birthday party while avoiding any food that’s going to be served there and looking at people eating chocolate in disgust thinking “they have no idea how many calories they are consuming”.
I know what it feels like to sleep a lot because you don’t have much energy to do anything else.
I also know what it’s like to eat and drink your emotions. To wait until next Monday to start a diet. To start a diet, have a little setback like eating chocolate, which later in the day turns into “I already had chocolate… today is a write-off so I’ll have a takeaway tonight and start again tomorrow”.
I’ve started to go to the gym, opt for the most calorie-burning exercise class and then skip exercise for the rest of the week because my legs are so stiff I can’t walk up and down the stairs.
Where It All Changed
My lowest point came during the first COVID lockdown. I was very anxious, stressed, and depressed.
My weight was creeping up and my physical and emotional health was getting worse. I had high blood pressure and suffered from back pain. I also developed severe panic attacks.
I recall a very dark night. I was looking at my reflection in the mirror and thinking “I look awful and I feel awful. Is this it? Is this how my life is going to be – just awful?”
In moments like this, you have a choice to make – you can stay where you are or you can make a decision to do something about it. You can do nothing and stay where you are. You can hang onto your excuses with every cell of your being.
You can choose to think that life is very hard, that so many people are struggling with their emotional health as well as weight gain, it’s almost to be expected in the world we are living in right now.
You can also take responsibility for your actions and make a decision to do something about them. The only person who can change your life is you!
This is when my weight loss journey began. I set myself a challenge to find the best way to lose weight and lift depression.
How The Bea Tribe Started
I have a degree in Biosciences and I love research and learning so I thought I was off to a good start.
When people ask me “What did you do?”, I often joke and reply “What didn’t I do!” I have lost count of all the courses that I took, all the books that I read, and everything I tried and tested on my own skin!
It was a long process and I often felt that I was taking one step forward and two steps back… until I found what actually works!
I found the right mindset, the right nutritional tools, and the right habits for sustainable weight loss.
My biggest surprise was that after I put my strategy into practice and experienced how well it works I stopped focusing on the weight loss.
I was having so much fun getting healthier and feeling happier that weight loss became just become a positive side effect of what I was doing!
The Struggle Is Real
Let me share something else with you – according to my nutritional DNA test, it’s hard for me to lose weight. Really hard.
But. Yes, there is a “but”! I have never lost weight more effortlessly and easily whilst having fun and enjoying the journey in my entire adult life! It’s mind over matter and I am living proof of that.
I know how difficult and hard it can be trying to lose weight. There are so many different ways to lose weight and hundreds of different diets. It’s so confusing and frustrating.
That’s the bad news. The good news is, I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be this way. You can achieve sustainable weight loss and never go on a diet again!
